Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar Fight Prediction – UFC 116

KRZYSZTOF SOSZYNSKI vs. STEPHAN BONNAR

Fight Overview:  An “instant” rematch of their last meeting, a hard-fought and hotly contested bout that ended with a controversial doctor’s stoppage in Soszynski’s favor.

Soszynski’s Strengths:  Soszynski has good punching power, good wrestling, and a very good ground game with damaging ground and pound and powerful submissions from the top.

Soszynski’s Weaknesses:  His boxing is not very good technically, and he is outreached by Bonnar as well.  He also doesn’t work well off his back.

Bonnar’s Strengths:  Bonnar has a great chin, good technical kickboxing, and very underrated jiu-jitsu.

Bonnar’s Weaknesses:  He doesn’t have as much wrestling as Soszynski, and his lack of finishing power is going to create a lot of chances for him to get taken down.

The Verdict:  I think Soszynski’s wrestling is the determining factor here.  Both are good enough on the ground to not get submitted, and while Soszynski has more power Bonnar has better kickboxing.  Soszynski’s takedowns and punching from top position should earn him all three rounds and the decision win though.

Fight Prediction:  Krzysztof Soszynski by unanimous decision.
