Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin Fight Prediction – UFC 116

BROCK LESNAR vs. SHANE CARWIN

Fight Overview:  A title unification bout between two humongous powerhouses in the Heavyweight division.  Both have amateur wrestling backgrounds, but Lesnar has shown an ability to physically manhandle his opponents while Carwin has proven that he has dynamite in his hands.

Carwin’s Strengths:  Carwin has good boxing, great clinch work up against the cage, and a huge amount of knockout power.

Carwin’s Weaknesses:  His takedown defense and ability to work off his back have never been tested, and Lesnar will do that in spades.

Lesnar’s Strengths:  Lesnar has huge punching power, standing and on the ground.  He is also a mountain of a man with some of the best wrestling in the history of the sport and ridiculous top control and positioning.

Lesnar’s Weaknesses:  His submission defense is obviously still developing, and his standup technique basically consists of Donkey Konging people.

The Verdict:  Background aside, I don’t think Carwin has an answer for Lesnar’s wrestling.  He could knock out Lesnar or almost anyone else given a chance, but he is going to get planted as soon as he even clips Lesnar.  From there, it is all academic, because Lesnar is too big, too strong, and too good to get swept.  He will unload on Carwin on top for the T/KO victory.

Fight Prediction:  Brock Lesnar by second round T/KO.
