George Sotiropoulos vs. Kurt Pellegrino Fight Prediction – UFC 116

GEORGE SOTIROPOULOS vs. KURT PELLEGRINO

Fight Overview:  Rising Australian star Sotiropoulos looks to cement himself as one of the top figures in the Lightweight division against tough, well-rounded veteran Kurt Pellegrino.  After his impressive showing against Joe Stevenson, a win against Pellegrino could put Sotiropoulos in a contender’s spot for a future title shot, so this is a big fight.

Sotiropoulos’ Strengths:  He has some of the best jiu-jitsu in the division, solid wrestling, and a very crisp boxing game.

Sotiropoulos’ Weaknesses:  As ridiculous as it sounds, it’s hard to point out anything too bad about Sotiropoulos’ game.  His wrestling is not as good as his striking or submissions, but it is serviceable.

Pellegrino’s Strengths:  Pellegrino has excellent jiu-jitsu, great wrestling, and a very sound standup game.  He is also a long-time veteran with a ton of big fights under his belt.

Pellegrino’s Weaknesses:  He is used to imposing his will on the ground, and when he can’t, he tends to flounder and make mistakes like he did against Nate Diaz.

The Verdict:  Both guys are well-rounded, but Sotiropoulos is just a little more dangerous in every aspect of the game.  He will outbox Pellegrino, dictate when and if the fight makes it to the ground with his wrestling, takedown defense, and excellent sweeps, and earn a unanimous decision victory.

Fight Prediction:  George Sotiropoulos by unanimous decision.
