This is a stylistic matchup that promises fireworks, as Belfort is an aggressive power puncher while Silva is the sport’s premier counterpuncher.
Belfort’s Strengths: He is very well-rounded, with amazing power punching, an aggressive style, good jiu-jitsu, and decent wrestling.
Belfort’s Weaknesses: He is going to give up a lot of technique and handspeed against Silva, and is nowhere near Silva’s level in the clinch.
Silva’s Strengths: Silva is arguably the most devastating striker in the sport’s history. From any distance and in the clinch, Silva can destroy people with all four limbs. He also has a very dangerous guard.
Silva’s Weaknesses: He is rarely the aggressor in his fights, prefering to let his opponents come at him, which could cause problems against a guy with one-punch knockout power like Belfort’s. He also has notoriously questionable submission defense.
The Verdict: I think this is going to be a tough fight for Belfort to win. He is an extremely formidable striker, but his aggressive style plays right into Silva’s dominant counter-punching.
