UFC 131 – Jon Olav Einemo vs. Dave Herman Prediction

JON OLAV EINEMO vs. DAVE HERMAN

Fight Overview:  Jon Olav Einemo returns to the sport after a five year layoff against heavy-handed veteran Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman.  Einemo is extremely well-rounded, with great striking and world-class submissions, but Herman has a ton of punching power and isn’t coming off a huge layoff, so this should be a very competitive fight.

Einemo’s Strengths:  Einemo has very good striking with great technique and power, and he uses his reach very well.  He is also one of the world’s premier Heavyweight submission grapplers.

Einemo’s Weaknesses:  He has fought only two times since 2003, and not at all in the last five years.  He is also nowhere near as physically strong or imposing as Herman.

Herman’s Strengths:  Herman is an extremely dominant striker, with great technique and a surplus of knockout power.

Herman’s Weaknesses:  While he isn’t totally inept on the ground, he has no answer for Einemo’s world-class submissions.

The Verdict:  I think Einemo’s lanky reach and striking skills should be enough to hold Herman at bay long enough for him to figure out a way to drag this fight down to the ground.  If Einemo can get Herman down he probably has this in the bag, because his submissions are on a level Herman has never had to deal with.  Even on the feet Einemo has a good chance, but his ground game should make the difference.  Einemo by submission.
